The therapists at A Willow's Grace are licensed professionals with advanced degrees in counseling or a related field. They have extensive training and experience working with individuals and families.
I work with adults of all ages. I am passionate about clients seeking therapy in order to grow and heal from past experiences. I also love working with clients who are in a transitional phase in their lives and uncertain or fearful about making changes or setting boundaries.
Yes, I offer in-person appointments by appointment only. I have weekday availability for both in-person and telehealth. I can also be flexible with clients who choose to start in person and transition to telehealth for increased flexibility.
I do not take insurance. Upon request, a Superbill can provided to clients who wish to submit to insurance for reimbursement consideration. I recommend you contact your insurance directly before getting started to inquire about out-of-network coverage.
I am however in network with Lyra if your employer sponsors their EAP program.
Payment is due the same day of your appointment. Most clients choose to utilize the electronic payment system, where you are billed automatically on the day of your session. For both client intake and ongoing service, the fee is $150.00
When you schedule an appointment with us, we reserve that time for you. If you need to cancel your appointment, we ask for 24 hours in advance notice to avoid a charge for the session. If you have to cancel outside of that window, you will be charged a cancellation fee. You will be responsible for the entire session fee if you do not attend your appointment.
If you are planning to do an in person session and need to change to a virtual session there is no extra charge and minimal notice is required.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps clients to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that result from overwhelming life experiences. Clients often find that they experience insights in EMDR therapy that once took years for traditional talk therapy to address. EMDR therapy demonstrates that the mind heals from psychological trauma as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you injure yourself, your body works to heal the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it slows down the healing process and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing can continue. Similarly, if neurological processing is blocked due to the impact of a disturbing or repeatedly difficult experience, the thoughts, sensations, images and emotions associated with the experience can get stuck, causing intense suffering in both body and mind. Once the block is removed, the brain is able to process the experience as normal and healing resumes. Using EMDR within the context of the therapeutic relationship, clients are assisted in activating their natural healing process.
We work under the belief that trauma is any event that has happened in life that leaves you with an unwanted emotional or physical response, whether it is the result of a single incident, a prolonged, chronic experience throughout childhood, or exposure to an unhealthy emotional environment. Regardless of the type, traumatic events can lead to hypervigilance, avoidance, isolation, and shame and can significantly affect individuals long after their traumatic experience. When left unprocessed, trauma can show up in our lives in many ways. For trauma survivors, entering therapy is often an act of courage. We are committed to providing you with a safe, non-judgmental space to process your experience as you move toward healing.
Complex trauma occurs when someone is exposed to traumatic events, people, places, etc., over a longer duration of time. Our brains are amazing at adapting to these unfortunate circumstances in order to survive. Symptoms of complex trauma surface later with symptoms like PTSD, but other symptoms like dissociation can be present as well.
Dissociation is a psychological phenomenon that serves as a protective function for the brain. This coping mechanism can manifest in various forms and degrees. The concept operates on a continuum, which means everyone experiences it in different ways and intensities. For example, lighter forms of dissociation happen during daily activities that become so routine they don't require active cognitive engagement. These activities could include tying your shoes, taking a shower, or even driving a familiar route. In these instances, your brain automates the task, allowing you to function without conscious thought. Understanding dissociation helps us recognize it as a common and often useful psychological process.
Under the law, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
